A green imperial pigeon (ducula aenea) sits on a high perch in Komodo National Park. The Park is home to the famed komodo dragons, which are the largest lizards in the world and can grow as long as 3 meters (10 feet) and weigh as much as 90 kilograms (200 lbs). The dragons are highly endangered, with only between 2500 and 5000 living on a few islands in eastern Indonesia. The Park was formed in 1980 primarily to protect these unique creatures. There is also abundant bird life, particularly on Komodo island. Nusa Tenggara Timor, Indonesia. Image: Danzer_031322. To discuss use of this photo, please contact Erick at erick@erickdanzer.com.
