A barred dove (geopelia maugei) sits on a perch in Komodo National Park. The Park is home to the famed komodo dragons, which are the largest lizards in the world and can grow as long as 3 meters (10 feet) and weigh as much as 90 kilograms (200 lbs). The dragons are highly endangered, with only between 2500 and 5000 living on a few islands in eastern Indonesia. The Park was formed in 1980 primarily to protect these unique creatures.
